To strengthen the resilience and sustainability of the fishing community in Chunox by strengthening local governance, fostering sustainable fishing practices, and diversifying livelihoods, ensuring economic stability, environmental stewardship, and improved well-being for current and future generations.
Chunox Village in northern Belize, relies on fishing as the primary livelihood for its residents. The Chunox Fishermen’s Association (CFA) was established to represent the rights and interests of fishers, promote sustainable fishing practices, and enhance the well-being of its members. With 150 active members, the community remains vulnerable to economic instability due to increased fishing pressures, climate change, and a dependency on a single income source.
This project seeks to address these challenges by strengthening the CFA’s capacity to support its members and foster economic resilience within Chunox.
