Public Disclosure of Safeguards Documents for the Climate Actions for Building Resilience in Coastal Communities in the Caribbean (CABRIC) Project
The Belize Fund for a Sustainable Future is making available for public review the environmental and social safeguard documents for the proposed Climate Actions for Building Resilience in Coastal Communities in the Caribbean (CABRIC) project.
CABRIC is a regional programme that seeks to strengthen climate adaptation and resilience in coastal communities across five Caribbean countries — The Bahamas, Belize, Grenada, Jamaica, and Saint Lucia. The programme is funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and coordinated by the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC), with the Belize Fund serving as the national Grants Administrator for Belize.
What Is CABRIC About?
CABRIC focuses on community-based adaptation, nature-based solutions, and ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) in vulnerable coastal areas. The programme is designed to support climate resilience, ecosystem health, sustainable livelihoods, food and water security, and disaster risk reduction, while strengthening community participation and governance. In Belize, the programme includes engagement with Indigenous Peoples and other coastal communities, with attention to traditional knowledge, cultural heritage, livelihoods, and meaningful participation in programme activities.
Why Are We Sharing These Documents?
The safeguards documents explain how CABRIC will identify, avoid, minimize, and manage potential environmental and social risks and how affected communities and stakeholders can participate in the programme.
They address matters including:
- Environmental and social risk screening and management
- Indigenous Peoples’ rights and traditional knowledge
- Free, prior and informed consent (FPIC), where applicable
- Stakeholder and community engagement
- Gender and social inclusion
- Community participation in programme design and implementation
- Grievance and complaint mechanisms

The following documents are available for public review:
30-Day Public Disclosure Period
The documents are available for public review and feedback from September 4, 2026, to October 4, 2026.
During the disclosure period, members of the public and interested stakeholders may:
- Submit comments or questions; and
- Raise concerns about the safeguards documents or matters addressed within them
Feedback received during the disclosure period will be documented, reviewed, and considered in the finalization of the safeguards frameworks, as appropriate.
