A Seat for Change: Students Reimagine Plastic Waste

A Seat for Change: Students Reimagine Plastic Waste

Young people are proving that small actions can create lasting impact. 🌎♻️

Most people see an empty plastic bottle and think “trash” but the students at Orange Walk Technical High School saw more than that. Working together, members of the school’s Environmental Club collected recycled plastic bottles and transformed them into sustainable seating, showing how simple ideas can become practical solutions for reducing waste within their school.

The students shared that the journey was not always easy, as there were moments of uncertainty and trying to see where to begin. However, through persistence, creativity, and teamwork, they found the motivation to keep going. What started as an idea became a finished project that will serve as a lasting reminder of what can be achieved when young people take action.

Special recognition to Oseidy and Lyra for helping to lead the effort and encouraging action among their peers.

This initiative was supported by the Belize Fund for a Sustainable Future in collaboration with the Coastal Zone Management Authority and Institute (CZMAI), creating opportunities for young people to turn environmental challenges into meaningful action.
